Data & structured cabling

Structured cabling, containment, patching and outlet provision installed to the same standard as power.

Commercial · Industrial · Residential

Context

Data cabling fails quietly. A poorly routed, untested or badly terminated run does not stop working — it degrades, and the symptoms are blamed on everything else. Treating structured cabling with the same discipline as power infrastructure removes an entire category of recurring problems.

Signs that assessment may be needed

  • 01Wireless coverage used as a substitute for fixed cabling in fixed positions
  • 02Unlabelled, undocumented patching in a comms cabinet
  • 03New workstations, tills, access control or cameras being added
  • 04Cable runs shared with power without appropriate separation

None of the above should be investigated by opening equipment, testing live circuits or resetting protective devices repeatedly. If any of it involves heat, smoke, water or a shock, read the safety guidance before anything else.

General scope

  • Outlet planning, cable routing and containment coordinated with power circuits
  • Structured cabling installation, termination and patching
  • Comms cabinet layout, labelling and record documentation
  • Cabling for cameras, access control and connected building devices
  • Testing and results documentation for installed links
